organizing life.
After a week of deleting, renaming, and general shuffling around I have nearly completed the organization of my MP3 collection. I was inspired to get to work a couple weeks ago after seeing my friend Josh‘s music collection. He informed me of a program called Libra that allows you to setup multiple music libraries in iTunes. The big advantage of this is that it allows me to store all of my music on an external drive and then when i disconnect it, things don’t go haywire. That was the first step in getting things straightened out. Secondly, I read this post on Lifehacker (one of my favorite blogs) which told me about this incredible little free application called Media Monkey. Essentially this program helped me to rename, hunt down missing album art, and tag my music more effectively. If you want to know more about how this process works, just read the article at Lifehacker. So…now that my MP3′s are all organized, it’s on to other things.
I have this drawer in my desk that is stacked full of CD’s and DVD’s…some of them from last century (not too different from my MP3 collection). So, my next goal is to go through that drawer, clean out, organize and throw away all of the junk that I no longer need. It’s really weird how organization makes me happy…even the thought of it makes me happy!
Beyond those things, I should probably mention that I did sell the Wii’s on eBay successfully. I put them on for 3 days and both sold within 36 hours. I was a little scared because the market is getting more and more saturated and therefore prices were dropping. I ended out undercutting the competition by $10 and that seemed to do the trick. Oh, I should also mention that I did only sell two. Of the other two, one went to my friend and the last one found a home in my home. I knew that Jen would come around after playing with one for a while and of course I was right. Everyone I’ve came in contact with loves the thing, even my sister whom hasn’t played a video game since like Pole Position! It’s really a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to what games are on the horizon.
The last bit of news is that I’m trying to dig back into investing & finance. Our church is starting this 13 week class called Financial Peace University and it has me thinking about such things. We went to the orientation and were debating on whether we should take the class or not. In the end I decided that I probably already knew most of what would be taught from reading several finance books in the past and what I didn’t know, I could easily find out just by reading the book Financial Peace (thereby saving me about $75 bucks). While I think the program is probably really good and of huge value to a lot of people, it just didn’t seem to be what I needed personally. Instead, I’ve been digging around on Amazon looking for investment books that will teach me more about the market and how to trade wisely.
Anyway, that’s it for this edition…I know it was a long one, I guess that’s what happens with the updates are so few and far between.
I recently regained interest in the stock market after a long hiatus. Back a couple summers ago I had a strong interest in trading but unfortunately didn’t have any money to invest myself. I advised my father on a couple of trades that turned out good, so when I landed a job, one of the first things i did with that money was open a stock account.
Today I made a purchase on a Google option. The stock itself has been incredible. You may remember that they began trading publicly about a month ago after a stock auction…the price went up and trading started around $80 I think. Today the stock is trading at $190. The past 3 days have been…well…very good for the Google boys. I told my brother a couple days ago that this stock reminds me of the 90′s tech stocks…the only way it knows to go is up! Who knows where the roof is on this one, but I’m beginning to think it’s headed for $220+
I’m not professional, but if you are investing in stocks, this is one I would look at…at least short term.
