Ok, I am officially done with Windows Vista. I’m tired of all the little settings that you have to tweak, I’m tired of the drivers that don’t load, won’t load, or aren’t available. I’m tired of it crashing and not working right.
I figured out today that my computer has been causing problems for about 3-4 months. I attributed it to the router or other things for a while…but I finally decided to do some troubleshooting and narrow down where the problem was coming from. So, i found the problem- Vista. Normally this is the point when I would try to fix the problem, but my attempts only led me farther down the rabbit hole. I was working with the network settings and now Media Center won’t work, which has nothing to do with the network. Then it got worse and currently I can’t hear any audio at all. I’m sick of it.
As soon as OS X Leopard is released or begins coming free with the new Mac systems, I’m buying one. That’s that.
I’m telling you man.. it is soo easy, download the KDE DVD ISO from here:
http://www.lintelligence.de/getdownload/ff85359f8c126c3/1189863199/591
It is 956MB (you could try the torrent, but I didn’t have any luck with that method).
Burn this disc and boot from it and just try it out. Costs nothing between now and when Leopard comes out.
I’ve tried Linux 3-4 times, but never really liked it much. I might give it another shot…but I wouldn’t hold my breath. I HAVE to have access to the Adobe Creative Suite (photoshop, illustrator, indesign) daily…not to mention iTunes and a few others.
For now, I found the problem- the xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver. It’s this little thing that lets me use my xbox 360 controller with windows. Until yesterday I didn’t have it plugged in, except for when in use. I realized I had an unused USB port so I decided to hook it up. I didn’t remember until today…because of course, what impact should that have on sound and video playback?
the internet/network still isn’t working right…but at least we’re back to where we started.

Instructions on installing CS2 on Ubuntu (Mint is based off of Ubuntu so the steps should be very similar or exact if you were to use Ubuntu).
Less luck for iTunes on Linux. But there are many good music apps out there for Linux like Amarok (my current fav) or Banshee. Both solid choices.
Yeah, I’d say that is one of the biggest problems with Linux right now lack of support in commercial software.
