Web 2.0

mmmhmm…

I have a new addiction…it’s called “Web 2.0″. There are some disagreements about what exactly Web 2.0 means…but to me it’s just a term used for the newer generation of websites that are more interactive. I don’t mean you go to them to play games, but rather you decide what you want from them. They’re “user friendly”. Instead of me trying to describe it, how about some examples.

Netvibes - make your own page using RSS feeds, POP mail, Gmail, news, weather, etc. All customized by you, for you. Want to move a section to another spot on the page…just drag and drop. [via the power of AJAX]

Joe’s Goals - if you are list driven, this site is for you. You can make a list of things you wish to accomplish daily, bi-daily, weekly, etc then just click away to mark them as “done”. You can even add negative things like, spending too much time on the internet. ;)

Meebo - this is an IM web client. Basically you can log into your AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, MSN, and GTalk accounts all in one place…without downloading a thing. Really good news for users of multiple computers, particularly those that are locked down.

Imagination Cubed - i’m not sure how useful this is, but it’s pretty cool. It’s basically just a whiteboard where you can draw, chat, and share ideas with other people. the great thing is that there’s no registration required…just invite a friend via email or IM and you’re ready to go.

Vyew - similar to Imagination Cubed…but more for sharing pictures and other stuff. It will take screen shots so you can point out things to unfamiliar users…also can show maps to people. very handy i think…and something I will probably actually use!

Alright, so that’s a good roundup for starters. If you find yourself addicted like myself, check outMashable for a HUGE list of stuff.

thanks to Josh for getting me hooked. and an appology to Jen for yet another geek post. I’m sorry. maybe next time it will be something you want to read.

my week in brief.

a week of traveling has finally ended for Jen and I. We left one week ago for the “U.P.” (upper peninsula of Michigan) and did the whole wedding thing (read below) and it went great. Of course even better than the wedding was my golfing performance earlier that morning. I shot a 45 (9 holes) and nearly matched my pastor’s score, which is always a personal goal. Anyway…the wedding went great, no objections, no fainting, no hail. After that was over, we traveled down to Chicago for a shopping spree. I strategically picked our hotel so that we could have easy access to IKEA among other places. I think Jen was pretty happy…Crate and Barrel marathon! So, we bought a few things for the house, then headed up to Milwaukee the next day.

Once we arrived and got settled into our hotel we headed to the LPA convention (Little People of America). It was my first LPA event, of any scale, ever. To put it lightly, it was WILD. Think high school prom, on steroids, mega hormones, and alcohol, then shorten everyone by 2 feet. It was an experience.

In any case it was really cool to meet a few people in person that I’ve kept track of online via the power of myspace. And it was good to get my feet wet with the LPA.

So, yesterday, July 4th we went to a baseball game. The Reds (my home team) just happened to be in Milwaukee so that worked out nicely, we got tickets right behind home-plate and one row in front of the pitcher’s wife and daughter…so needless to say they were GREAT seats, even if the Reds lost. After the game we chilled out, then found some fireworks to watch.

Today we got up and went to the Radio City audition which I’ve been anxious about for the past 3-4 months. It went pretty well and i think we’re both just happy to have it off our minds. It’s out of our hands, and completely in God’s at this point so we will be praying until we hear word sometime in the next 3 weeks.

So…that was my week…whew! It was fun, but I’m glad it’s over!
