benchmark- A standard by which something can be measured or judged
My latest life theory is that there is a true lack of “benchmarks” in life. I think this can go all the way to the core of our being all the way to how we spend our money. And while audio equipment isn’t the deepest subject to point to, it’s a passion of mine, so i’m going to talk about it for a second.
What is good sound? when you go to the theater to watch a movie, is that good sound? when you go to best buy and hear a set of “Bose Acoustimass” speakers, is that good sound? To most, the answer is probably yes. But the question is why? I mean, here’s the truth, neither of those actually give you great sound. It’s just that people have “benchmarked” those things as being “the best” and therefore measure everything on that scale. But to the audiophiles out there, Bose is about the worst thing you could buy. So either A) people haven’t heard what good sound really is or B) they can’t tell the difference. In either case society at large is being led astray by marketing ploys and ill informed sales people.
Just something to think about.
I know, I know…it has been a while. I must apologize, although I think by now most who read this site have come to expect large gaps in time. It is not intentional and not for the lack of time but rather the lack of a direction for my thoughts. I have had dozens of ideas for posts, but never can seem to get them into words as I would like.
The big news is of course that tour is over. In just 2 days it will be a full 3 weeks that we’ve been home and while the time hasn’t been completely perfect, it has been very good. Here’s a little excerpt from a something I ALMOST posted one week after arriving home:
“…the word that comes to mind is “bliss”. Being home is so much better than I ever thought it would be. I find myself waking up each morning just so happy that I’m not waking in some anonymous hotel room. I wake up, I smile, and I don’t stop smiling until my head hits the pillow again at night. Things like going to get the mail, going to church, and visiting with friends all just warm my heart- I know that sounds kind of silly, but it’s so true.”
So yeah, being home is good.
I’m going to end with that, since I don’t want to overwelm you. I promise, I will post again before Sunday. until then…
