cellphone etiquette

Two years have passed since I started my last contract with Cingular…which means it’s time for a new phone. After a long and tedious debate I went with the SMT 5600 . It received great reviews, it’s just a little bigger than my old phone (Siemens S56 ), it runs Windows Mobile- which means tons of downloadable stuff, and is compatible with subscription music services (such has Yahoo Unlimited ). Runners up to my choice: Sony Ericsson S710a , Palm Treo 650

In the midst of the cell phone talk, Jen and I began a short conversation about “cellphone etiquette”. We are both pretty baffled at how some people can seem to lose all sense of social politeness when it comes to cell phone issues. For some reason, some people still think that carrying around a cell phone and flipping it out randomly like it’s a badge somehow makes them cool. Listen up…it’s 2005 folks, EVERYONE has a cell phone. EVERYONE. I don’t care how many more “bars” you have than me or how cool you think it is that you can take pictures with your phone. Give it a rest.

I cruised around the web and I am obviously not the first person to have issues with cell phone etiquette. Here are a few pages to help to diagnose yourself and tips on how to fix it:
