iPod Video & iTunes 6

Posted October 14th, 2005 in Technology by Dave

Ready for the next revolution? Well, it seems that Apple is. As most of you probably know by now Apple rolled out their new iPod that has video capabilities built in. They partnered this release up with the release of iTunes 6, which just happens to include a nice interface for downloading videos (for a fee of course). While the iPod is a step in the right direction toward on-the-go video, it was only a half step. Watching video on a 2.5″ screen (albeit, very nice resolution)is not exactly what I had in mind. However the revolution isn’t in the iPod…it’s in the delivery service. Being able to download episodes of “Lost”, commercial free, the day after it airs is a HUGE step towards true on demand TV and then end of those dreaded commercial interruptions. Personally, I would pay 2 bucks just to skip the commercials even if I don’t have a Video iPod.

If other networks jump into bed with Apple, this will definitely be the beginning of the end for TV as we know it. And I for one am ready.
