more rants and raves (tv)

Rave- Discovery Channel. Over the past few years the Discovery Channel has been putting out some quality programming. While I enjoy most educational programs, Discovery has been doing a better job of reaching into the general population over the past couple years. American Chopper and Monster Garage have lost some of their luster, but MythBusters is going strong. It reminds me a lot of the early 90′s when they had thoses shows “Next Step” and “Beyond 2000″.

Rant- Family Guy. I will admit that there was something about this show that was entertaining. It was a “guilty pleasure” for a while, but since they came out with the new season it has been all down hill. They’re trying too hard to be controversial and spending way too much time on politcal and religious themes. I was excited about the next season…but after seeing the first two episodes it turned me off…so, I turned it off. Permanently.

Rave- Top Gear (UK edition). While Discovery has picked up the series to play here in the states…the editing is horrible. They slice several different episodes into one, change the voice overs, and take out all of the humor. It is much, MUCH better in the UK…(even if they do bash the US from time to time). I’m amazed at how they keep coming up with new and original ideas…it’s… clever. In the UK it’s on every Sunday night, so if you’re into this sort of thing, you can download it on Sunday’s around 9pm on sites like http://mininova.org

Well, I caved in and started my own “myspace”. I initially just started my account so that I could look at pictures, but I finally gave way to adding my picture and profile last night. I’ll admit it though, I still don’t get it. There’s no content, just a bunch of profiles with pictures. I’m not sure anyone really gets it, eventhough it is wildly popular. I think it’s going to be like the tech boom of the 90′s and just come crashing down one of these days…but for now I guess I’ll ride the wave.
