OSX Tiger
If you’ve been following this page for a while, you’ll remember that I dove into the world of Apple computers a few months ago. I’ve been toying around with the system for a while now and I’m getting a better feel for the way things work, although I’m far from an expert. anyway, I just upgraded to the latest operating system release OSX 10.4 (Tiger) and all I can say is “Wow!”. It’s just a couple small changes here and there…almost like a service pack, but those changes while they appear to be small, I believe are in fact huge steps in the home computing world. the number one new feature is called “spotlight”. this little feature is just one step away from being like those futuristic movies where the guy says “computer, search for all murders in the past 2 months” and boom there’s the results. While this won’t tell you about your local crimes and it isn’t voice activated (yet), it does work almost as instantly as those sci-fi dreams. you basically put in a search term and in a matter of seconds it pulls up a list of well organized results…it even will search through PDF files and emails! It is the one feature that is going to revolutionize the future of home computers. There are a couple other features that are pretty cool like “dashboard” and the rss features added to “Safari” (mac version of internet explorer), but those things are minor. in any case, OS X is outstanding. 9.5 / 10
