music shaped.

Continuing on with a couple of things that I’ve mentioned over the past weeks I want to hit on some music that has probably in fact shaped my life. Right now I’m listening to one of my favorite discoveries of the year: The David Crowder Band. While I heard them years ago initially, I fell in love with them this past summer with their album Illuminate. Their music is…revolutionary.

Here is a short list of albums that have changed my view on Christian music, my life, or my relationship with God: (in chronological order)

1. The World as Best as I Rembember It – Rich Mullins (my introduction to a master of lyrics, a great man and songwriter)
2. The Great Adventure – Steven Curtis Chapman (While this album came out after the first, it was actually the first Christian album I recall listening to…and I listened to it over and over and over)
3. Free at Last – dc talk (this is when Christian music first seemed “cool” to me)
4. New Way to Be Human – Switchfoot (incredible music writing, every song seemed unique)
4. Come Together – Third Day (a revival of music for me, great new sounds, this album made me passionate about music again)
5. Illuminate – David Crowder Band (as I already mentioned – revolutionary)
6. Behold the Lamb of God – Andrew Peterson (I already posted about this album, but I think it’s still sinking in just how provacative the whole album is. with out a doubt, this is a work of art.)

There are about 12 years of music there, wrapped up into the 6 albums that have effected me most. There have been other albums that I’ve liked…a lot…but they were just good music, these made me want to change something about my life… and I think that says something.
