I just found out that Suprnova.org has closed it’s site permanently. For most of you this will mean nothing, but to me it’s like the death of Audiogalaxy or Napster…
Suprnova.org was a “host” for torrent links. While it officially had no illegal workings, it was a somewhat shady operation where others could share files using what is known as torrents. It’s a cutting edge technology that alows P2P sharing at faster speeds… You can find out more here: Bit Torrent
The thing about it is…I think they probably shut down because of pressure from organizations like the MPAA…what these organizations don’t understand is that they can’t stop file sharing. It’s like trying to stop people from using VCR’s or sharing books. They need to work with the technology instead of against it. Look at iTunes, they seem to be doing pretty good. Maybe someday they’ll get the picture.
Just as Suprnova.org has fallen, another will rise. (Audiogalaxy>Napter>Kazaa>Kazaa Lite>Suprnova>?????)
Today I traversed through a vast field searching for that one and only tree which I would welcome into my home, dress it, and treat it like royalty preparing for a ball (at least until Jan 1, when it gets tossed into a ditch somewhere). This was my first tree hunting experience. Most of the years I spent growing up we had an artificial tree and in the years we didn’t, I wasn’t interested I guess. I really had a good time to be honest, I kept having visions of “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”, when the family is trudging through snow for hours until all of the sudden, there it is, The Tree. I kept imagining that I would see a tree and light would shine down on it like it was chosen of God, but alas it didn’t happen. We ended out finding a good tree though…I cut it myself and drug it out of the field…I felt very manly.
The tree is now in my living room, properly decorated and waiting for gifts to join it. Ah, it’s Christmastime…
I just read a great article that pretty much sums up my exact thoughts when it comes to the iPod. stop starring at this page and go read it!
Why the iPod Sucks
So, I’ve been thinking about getting a Mac for a while. When ipods first came out a few years ago I started thinking about it and then once we got on the road EVERYONE had Macs. Since I’m into photograph, video, and music…and that just so happens to be Mac’s strong points (and the industry’s standard) I’ve been led even further into switching.
Jen’s grandfather has an iMac g4. I played with it a bit tonight, I guess that’s the thing that really has me thinking about it. if they were just a little cheaper! seeing that I can buy an incredible Dell system for under 1000 and the comparable Mac is 2-3x that…ugh!
How about some comments? Any experiences out there?
