ignorance

Whoever said that “ignorance is bliss” either a) was ignorant himself or b) didn’t know many ignorant people.

that’s my observation after driving in holiday traffic. people don’t turn on their signals, don’t know the traffic laws, and well…are just plain ignorant at times. Does this make me feel like i’m in bliss??? I think not. It’s quite the opposite…ignorance drives me nuts!!!

so therefore this whole statement is bunk.

albums not dead

There’s this article that I read about a year ago about the changing music scene. Yesterday I watched High Fidelity and was reminded of the evolution of digital music and specifically that article I had read some time ago. Thanks to the power of the internet, I found it and here’s the link:

Downloading squeezes the art out of the album

It’s something worth some thought, I think… Will we stop buying albums because of services like Itunes? I personally don’t think so. I don’t tend to buy that many single songs, my investment is in the artist, not the song. What do you think?

black friday

Tomorrow is the craziest shopping day of the entire year. Wait…i take that back…It’s now 2:00am, so the craziest shopping day will actually begin in about three hours for some people. Of course my wife and mother just happen to be some of those people. I’m sure there are some deals out there, but is it really worth it just to save a couple bucks? Not to me.

Since it is the season to shop, I will lend my advice to those of you looking for that tech toy for that certain someone: DON’T BUY IT AT BEST BUY. There are a multitude of reasons for this…primarily their poor customer service record backed by their ignorant staff and lack of quality products. Currently in my house I could probably count the number of things I’ve bought at Best Buy on one hand…and none of those things would be over $50.

So what are the options you might ask? Well, if you’re looking for sound or TV equipment, check your yellow pages for a home theater or hifi dealer. if you’re looking for a computer (or related product) go to some place like CompUSA, Microcenter, or your local computer shop. If you’re looking for anything else check the web and of course there’s always Circuit City. The point is…you’ll probably find better customer service elsewhere…particularly in a place that specializes in the item you’re looking for rather than a hodge-podge of different, mediocre products.

Finally, here are some links that I would recommend to get you started (particular to technology products)

halo 2 lan party

Well, my church youth group, which I help out with, had a little get together tonight. They called it “movie night” but what it turned out to be was “come to the gym, do whatever you want night”. I had heard a little bit last night about xbox talk…i thought maybe 4 player on the big screen. Nope…12 players on some TV’s that people brought. Ok, I know I’m a complete geek already so you don’t have to scold me for being excited about it. It took about 5 minutes before I got in on the gaming and while I was surprised at how good some people were (and got smoked), I eventually started getting the hang of it and held my own by the end of the night.

Yeah, it was pretty fun. It’s just a shame that I had to squint at that little 25″ screen, but I guess it might be too hard to get my 47″ in there. Hmm…how can we make that setup permanent? Anyone have a couple grand laying around they’d like to donate to the youth group!?? It’s for a good cause. ;)
